Product Description:

I've been playing guitar for a very long time and I have owned some great guitars. This D'Angelico plays and sounds almost as nice as my 1982 Gibson ES347. I say almost, simply because this guitar isn't set up as is my Gibson. This guitar is waiting for somebody to set it up according to their specifications.  If you're in the market for a 330 or 335 style guitar for a lot less money, check this guitar out.

After mastering his craft during an 18-year apprenticeship, luthier John D’Angelico opened his own shop in Manhattan’s Little Italy in 1932. Catering to New York’s many jazz musicians over the ensuing three decades, D’Angelico and a single apprentice became New York’s foremost stringed instrument builders, creating over one thousand treasured archtop guitars until John’s death in 1964. After his passing, the D’Angelico’s legacy lived on only through his rare, legendary instruments. After decades, the D’Angelico brand has resurfaced, bringing back the playability and attention to detail of the company’s New York roots. D’Angelico uses state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and the finest available materials to create playable works of art for today’s guitarist. From a modest shop in Little Italy to the world stage, D’Angelico’s dedication to quality craftsmanship ensures that this brand won’t be going dormant again any time soon.

So if you are looking for a truly beautiful guitar that plays and sounds fantastic, check this guitar out. From jazz to rock and beyond, progressive guitarists from Kurt Rosenwinkel to Bob Weir have embraced the D’Angelico Excel SS. A highly playable semi-hollowbody electric guitar with killer tone and eye-popping visuals, the Excel SS’s semi-hollow maple body yields a bright, rich, resonant sound with loads of bite and sustain, while a solid center block ensures a feedback-free performance. Equipped with a pair of Seymour Duncan’s acclaimed ’59 humbuckers, the Excel SS serves up a banquet of tone for every occasion, from jazzy cleans to full shred. Navigating this guitar’s comfortable, fast 3-piece C-shaped neck is effortless, as your fingers dance on the smooth-as-silk pau ferro fingerboard. The Excel SS boasts high-end aesthetic touches such as mother-of-pearl Split Block fingerboard inlays, multi-ply binding and tortoise pickguard, a unique Skyscraper truss rod cover, and elegant gold hardware. If you’re on the hunt for a cross-genre do-it-all semi that will ace any live gig or studio session, the D’Angelico Excel SS deserves your serious consideration.

Playing the D’Angelico Excel SS is sheer joy. Its 3-piece maple/walnut neck boasts a comfortable C profile, and its gloss finish supplies the perfect blend of grip and ease of movement. Its 16"-radius fingerboard features 22 medium-jumbo frets. This silky smooth pau ferro fretboard enables comfortable chording while facilitating technically demanding leads. The instrument’s easy hand feel is a byproduct of its 24.75" scale length, which makes bends and vibrato feel effortless, while its single cutaway body shape gives you optimized high-register access. For rock-solid tuning stability, the Excel SS is equipped with Grover Super Rotomatic locking tuners, while a GraphTech TUSQ nut bolsters sustain and eliminates string binding.

About our set-ups:  We do our best to accurately describe the current set-up and playability of each guitar. However, due to temperature and humidity changes the guitar may experience while in transit, it's possible for the neck and body to slightly "adjust" along the way. After all, guitars are primarily wooden instruments that are highly susceptible to their environment. By the time you receive the guitar, un-box it and tune it up, you may find that it needs a slight adjustment to get it back to the set-up specs that we originally described in our listing. Please keep this in mind before purchasing.
